To move RoTrail to a new computer, keep the old installation available while you record the profiles, limited items and settings you want to recreate. Install RoTrail in the destination Chrome profile, add those selections again, and let it establish fresh observations.
That recreates your monitoring setup. It does not transfer its saved history. RoTrail's reviewed 1.4.0 implementation stores watchlists, observations and activity locally and provides no supported watchlist import, history export or cross-device restoration control. Signing into Chrome or verifying a RoTrail access key is not a promise that those records will appear on another device.
Before changing anything, open the original profile
Find the Chrome window that still has your working RoTrail setup. Select Chrome's profile icon to check which browser profile it belongs to. The Roblox account signed into a website is separate from the Chrome profile that holds the extension.
Google's Chrome profile guide explains how to switch between profiles. If you only opened the wrong one, switch back before creating a duplicate setup. The missing-extension guide covers that diagnostic in more detail.
While you can still open the old installation, make a small private record of what you need:
- Each watched profile's Roblox profile link or numeric user ID, with its current username as a readable label.
- Each watched limited item's asset link or ID, with its name.
- Your general alert categories, item thresholds, Quiet hours range and sound preference.
- Any profile-specific overrides, pause or snooze state, and other controls you actually use.
Use stable profile links rather than a list of display names. A display name can be shared by multiple accounts. The username, display-name and user-ID guide explains how to distinguish them.
Keep this record private and limited to your legitimate monitoring purpose. A note containing your selections is useful for rebuilding them; a screenshot of an entire desktop can expose far more than you intended.
Decide which recent events you still need
Open Recent activity and View all in the old installation. Read or privately note any event you still need before its retention window expires. Preserve its observation time, the relevant account or item ID, and the fields actually shown. Label a screenshot as a screenshot from the old installation rather than presenting it as a record from the new one.
There is no supported history-export button in the reviewed extension. Manually saving a few relevant details is not a complete backup and cannot be imported to recreate RoTrail's internal timeline. If you need a guaranteed restorable archive, that requirement is not met by this migration method.
Keeping the old computer does not freeze its activity forever. The reviewed retention windows are 12 hours on Free, three days on Plus and seven days on Pro, with a maximum entry count as well. History expires; do not postpone reading a needed event because the old device remains on your desk.
Avoid Clear activity, Delete all RoTrail data and uninstalling until you have finished with those records. Chrome explicitly says that local extension storage is cleared when the extension is removed. Its storage documentation also distinguishes local storage from the separate sync storage an extension can choose to use.
Recreate the setup in the destination profile
Use an ordinary desktop Chrome profile on the destination computer, or the new profile on your current computer. Follow the RoTrail download guide to reach the verified installation route. Check the extension version and available controls after installation; this guide is based on the reviewed 1.4.0 implementation.
Add your recorded profile links or usernames and limited-item IDs through the normal Watch controls. Review the access prompt for each feature you choose. Profile watching requests its public-data proxy access; limited-item watching requests Rolimons access. There is no reason to enable an unused feature simply because it was present on the old device.
Reapply the settings you recorded, then inspect the resulting watchlist. Check each numeric user ID or asset ID against your note. Two accounts with similar names are an easy migration mistake to catch now. Confirm the active profiles and notification preferences rather than assuming the defaults match your old setup.
If you use paid access, treat entitlement verification as a separate check. The Account screen has a Verify key action, but verifying a key does not restore a local watchlist or old activity. Check the plan actually shown in the destination installation before relying on its capacity. If verification fails or the expected capacity is unavailable, use support; this guide does not promise automatic paid-access transfer between installations.
Do not copy cached account records or browser storage files as a substitute for the normal verification flow. The reviewed implementation includes an installation-bound identity, so copying a few stored values is not an established migration method.
Allow a new baseline and expect a gap
A newly added profile begins with a starting observation. RoTrail needs a later successful observation to detect a change against it. The new installation does not know everything the old one observed, even if you added exactly the same profile link.
For example, suppose the old installation last saw a description at 10:00. The account changes it at 10:20, and you add it on the new computer at 10:40. The new installation starts from the description available at 10:40. It cannot reconstruct the 10:20 change from a baseline it never held. If the old installation recorded that event, its record stays with the old installation.
Write down the approximate transition time if continuity matters. Keep the destination device awake and Chrome available for a later scheduled cycle. The profile change guide explains baseline comparisons; the alert timing guide explains why an intended schedule is not a guaranteed deadline.
Finish the transition without confusing the records
Once the destination watchlist and settings are verified, decide which installation will keep monitoring. Two running local setups can produce separate observations and notifications. They do not merge into a shared timeline.
You can pause monitoring in the old setup while retaining the installation for reference. History retention still applies. If you later choose to remove it, use the extension removal guide after preserving the information you need. Deleting the entire Chrome profile is unnecessary for moving one extension and can erase unrelated browser information, as Google's profile guide warns.
If the old computer is already inaccessible and no private record exists, rebuild from the profile and item links you can independently verify. An empty destination watchlist does not show that a remote copy is waiting to be restored. Keep missing history labelled as missing rather than filling the gap from memory.
